We raise Spring nucleus colonies (nucs) from our own bees & the queens are laying & established (meaning the new brood in the nuc is from this queen). Queens (Carniolian and Russian) are primarily sourced from producers who use hygienic breeding with a few made by us. Our apiary is inspected by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) and a copy of our certificate of health can be provided by advanced request. Nucs available on deep frames. Nucs are 5 frames & consist of at least 2 frames of brood in all stages and 2 frames with honey and pollen resources, plus a 5th frame of new plastic or wax foundation put in at the time nucs are made & may not be fully drawn out.
The expected cost of nucs in a re usable plywood nuc box is $225 for 2024. Nucs in used commercial nuc boxes with screened bottom boards, inner covers and telescoping covers will be available for an additional cost TBD, Nucs are generally ready at the end of April through late May 2024. Pick up is in Gainesville, VA. Order confirmation, deposit, & payment information will be sent via email. Detailed pick up date, preparation & care instructions sent 1-2 weeks prior to pick up. All orders of live bees that are not picked up within 48 hours of notice to a buyer may be sold to another buyer.
